  1. To stimulate and support local action to increase awareness and reduce the frequency and severity of injuries within Alberta communities.


  2. Initiatives should address local issues and needs of the community and align with at least one of the following priority issues:

- suicide

- traffic-related injuries

- falls

- injuries to Aboriginals

- farm and agricultural injuries

  1. Consideration will also be given to initiatives that address other issues if a need specific to a community is identified and can be clearly supported and demonstrated as a local
  1. health care delivery services
  2. profit-making activities
  3. administrative functions or core operations which are normally part of the regular, ongoing activities
  4. constructing or renovating facilities
  5. staff in existing or ongoing positions
  6. programs or projects that are already funded as part of an organization's mandate
  7. sending individuals to conferences or other professional development activities
Grants will only be issued to or through an organization that is:
  1. incorporated as a society or association with the Government of Alberta
  2. a non-profit registered charitable organization
  3. a publicly funded organization or institution (RHA's are eligible only if sponsoring the application on behalf of a community action group, coalition, alliance, or network that is otherwise ineligible to access the funds)


  4. In the case that a community action group, coalition, alliance, or network is not incorporated, the application may be submitted by an eligible member/ partner org who will sponsor the project on its behalf
Category A: Larger grants (over $1000)
  1. Initiatives maximum 1 yr to be completed between April 1, 2001 and March 31, 2002.
  2. Grants range between $1,000 and $10,000. A total of $200,000 available.

- the design, development and evaluation of surveillance mechanisms that can monitor the incidence of agriculturally related deaths, injuries, and health issues

- farm health and safety preventative programs

- facilitation of the exchange of info on farm health and safety issues

  3. costs of travel and accommodation for provincial/federal government employees
