What CBR Does

Over the years CBR has become a resource, research connector, and facilitator for community groups, neighbourhoods and organizations. We provide a variety of assistance towards the discovery, development, sharing, and creative use of neighbourhood and organizational resources.

From our exciting work with Glenwood, an Edmonton neighbourhood, we developed a model or path for Community Capacity Building and Asset Mapping© which includes the Steps to Capacity Success©.

Our vision and mission guide our work.  As a small business we practice the philosophy of Asset-based Community Building (ABCB), or Asset-based Community Development (ABCD).  We are effective in assisting communities as they create environments where mutually beneficial relationships develop and grow, and creativity shows that "anything goes." We spark and support successful community building by facilitating the discovery of the talents, gifts, and assets of people while showing the ways to connect these so communities can determine the best use of local resources. Our work results in outcomes that positively impact the economic and social issues of communities, and we are FUN!  We also have spent a great deal of time learning about community centered research and evaluation.

We provide guidance to groups in Asset-based Community Building, Community Capacity Building and Asset Mapping©, the Steps to Capacity Success©, asset focussed facilitation and evaluation, community coaching, and project managment, that result in:

  • strong relationships and friendships that build vibrant, self reliant, healthy communities are formed.

  • picture of and a path toward the future.

  • supportive community-based and community-managed projects and infrastructures.

The general goals of Asset-based Community Building are to:

  • discover the assets/capacities that a community and its citizens are willing to share to support their community

  • design an asset map that graphically shows the community resources and existing and potential connections

  • develop community resources for community supports

  • nurture relationships that will result in community animation and action.

  • create the measures of success that show positive economic and social changes in the community.

  • assist in creating locally driven evaluation and research
