Edmonton's School Lunch Program

The Edmonton's School Lunch Program started in 1993 serving children in 2 schools, and now serves 12 schools, (which represents 1600 meals daily) in the inner city of Edmonton.

One of the unique aspects of this food security program is that the caterer for these hot meals (that are supplied daily - Monday to Friday) is the Misericordia Community Hospital and Health Centre, which is one of the sites of the Caritas Health Group. As the program grew so did the requirements for space and time so the catering and delivery responsibilities are now shared with the Edmonton General site.
