Fresh Start

[Actual summary letter sent to all participants] - 1995

The students at Fresh Start have a lot to contribute to the community.

Whe Was The Survey Completed?
This survey was completed to help you realize your potential in the community. In today's society, youth are often labeled with negative stereotypes. This is unfair to youth because not only are they denied job and volunteer opportunities within the community, but their sense of self-worth may be greatly diminished. It is hoped that this study will help you discover your talents and show you how you can make a positive impact in the community.

Who Was Responsible For Conducting The Survey?
Fresh Start and the Caritas Health Group (the Misericordia, Grey Nuns and Edmonton General Hospitals) have a unique partnership, and they worked together to complete this project. The goal is to begin to link students with job and volunteer opportunities in the community. The surveys were conducted by Angie and Erika from the Caritas Health Group, and by the Friends of Friends.

What Were The Results?
The results were amazing!! Fresh Start students are bursting with talent. You have experience with:

  • school related and extra curricular activities such as coaching, writing and computers
  • providing personal care and support
  • preparing and serving food
  • specialized training such as CPR and Suicide Prevention
  • transportation
  • and yes, home maintenance

WOW, with all this talent, you can be a real asset to the community!!

The results were presented to the students and staff on February 2, 1995 and the partners involved made initial strides towards connecting the students with the community.

What's Next?
Now that you know where your talents are, it is time to connect with the job and volunteer opportunities (asset map) in the community.
