BUILDING BUILDERS OPPORTUNITY

This opportunity will allow the in-depth discussion about the theories and underpinnings of Asset-based Community Building, and show practical ways for communities to spark community building initiatives using Community Capacity Building and Asset Mapping© (CCB&AM©) and the Steps to Capacity Success©. People who take part in this opportunity will acquire the confidence and ability to co-facilitate a Community Capacity Building and Asset Mapping© Raff It Up workshop with various groups or communities over a period of time. The length of time the participants will spend on this learning opportunity will be a function of the learners. This intensive opportunity is open to you if you have:

  • Already attended a Community Capacity Building and Asset Mapping© Raff It Up workshop conducted by CBR, and
  • Been involved in Community Building within your own community or group.

The Thinking:
The Thinking part of this opportunity may include discussion, hands-on facilitation and resources on and from…

  • Asset-based Community Building theory (ABCB), First Nations learning, Adult Education, Asset Based Community Development Institute, and other resources.
  • RAFF, Reciprocity, the Third Place, the Civic Entrepreneur, and other community building ideas.
  • Practical facilitation strategies and ideas for getting the theories and ideas across, generating discussion, and creating the RAFF and relationship-building environment.

The Building:
The Building part of this opportunity may include discussion, resources and hands-on facilitation on…

  • Making community building happen - taking the thinking to action - stories of Community Capacity Building and Asset Mapping©.
  • Facilitating a group through the Steps to Capacity Success©.
  • Hints and tips for facilitating.
  • Preparing for the workshop, getting the group together, materials, creating the binder, food requirements, and evaluation format.
  • Focusing the Community Building using questions that work.

In a hands-on, practice based setting, the Goals of this Building Builders opportunity may include:

  1. Discussion of the theory in depth and building on the understanding of ABCB and CCB&AM©, references, examples, and stories.
  2. Learning the content and process of facilitating a CCB&AM© - RAFF it up workshop.
  3. Learning the tools and approaches used in sharing the ABCB philosophy.
  4. Further developing facilitation skills necessary to guide discussion with those attending a CCB&AM© workshop.
  5. Learning how to facilitate, co-facilitate, and then be lead facilitator, with a group attending the CCB&AM© workshop and guide them through the Steps to Capacity Success©.

The objectives of Building Builders will be actually formulated by the participants.

The Cost:

  • The cost for Building Builders is determined by each participant in consultation with CBR

Time Commitment:
The participants will learn by:

  • co-facilitating and leading two or three CCB&AM© Raff It Up workshops
  • gathering and acquiring new facilitation techniques and tools
  • reading about and discussing theories that underpin the ABCB and the CCB&AM© Raff It Up workshop.

The ability, knowledge, and confidence that is required to deliver a is acquired over a period of time that is a function of the learner.
